Great Comeback

Battle Report by: Bold

Date:

This battle report is quite different from the one's I've done in the past.  I wasn't planning on reporting this game at all, and I was getting my ass kicked really bad and was about to concede victory to my opponent.. but then I pulled off the most incredible comeback I've ever done.  I apologize for not knowing my opponent's name, this game took place about a week ago and I didn't get any shots of his name because I wasn't planning on reporting the game at all.

Anyway, I started off as Protoss at 2:00 and my opponent was Terran at 6:00.  I started off with a normal 2 gate zealot to goons build and began scouting.  I scouted counter-clockwise so I didn't find my enemy until my last round.  Here's the twist:  For some reason, out of all my games, I chose this game not to rally my zealots to my ramp like I usually do.. and it turns out my opponent had proximity barracks'd me and offensive bunkered my ramp.  This means he built a barracks right near my base and loaded up a bunker quickly at my entrance (on top of my ramp on high ground).  At the time that I found the bunker in my base I had about 3 zealots which was not enough to take out a filled bunker with SCV repair.  So, I decided to keep pumping zealots til I had about 8.  But, to much dismay, even more bunkers were being filled while I was constructing more troops.  I was getting very worried at this point.. things were looking very bad for me so I decided to get a few goons while teching up to reavers.  It gets worse.. by the time I get my 1st reaver, my opponent has already built a factory inside my base and began seiging tanks up and pushing his bunkers closer and closer to my structures.  I had no choice but to sacrafice my goons and zealots in a desperate attempt to stop the push.  However, all of my troops were anihilated by tank and marine fire.  He began to pound at my gateways and pylons.  At this point I thought the game was over for sure.. but I didn't want to give up just yet.. he wasn't hitting my probes so I was still getting some resources.  So I warped in 2 gateways in the back of my base near my assimilator, out of his sight and reach.. I then began a templar archives (I already had a citadel) hoping to pop out some Dark Templar and test his detection ability.  Meanwhile I still had my reaver in a shuttle from before so I used him as a last ditch effort to gain some leverage.. I dropped him on my opponents peon line.  Fortunately for me, since he was putting all his management into forcing his way into my base he had nothing to guard his main whatsoever.. as a result, I completely shutdown his income and began wrecking some buildings.

Now, this was all good and all but I still HAD to stop the bunker / tank push in my base or I'd be dead for sure because I couldn't take out all his structures and he COULD take out mine.  My last hope was the DT I had been rushing to get.  As you can see below my DT are popping out of my new gateways found in the depths of my base after my first pair were destroyed.  I think at this point he was pounding on my robotics facility.. however, if he had charged in further a few seconds earlier, he could have wiped me out before I got my templar archives up.. or even destroyed my probes rather than my pylons and gateways!

Luckily, the DT popped out before he could shut me down.  And another reaver came out too but he was useless vs. the numerous tanks.  However, the DT would prove to be good enough considering my opponent didn't build turrets and didn't have an academy or comsat -- so he just gave up.  So, as it has been told.. that was probably my greatest BW comeback to this day.  Hope you enjoyed it.. I just wish I had more screen shots.

Lessons learned:
1. Rally your zealots to your ramp to prevent offensive bunker / proximity barracks.
2. If you offensive bunker a Protoss player, build turrets or have comsat!
3. Watch your peon line no matter what.
4. DT own an early-mid game offensive Terran.
5. Forget about destroying gateways or pylons when you feel you have the upper hand; go for key structures, attack units, and peons!
6. Never give up :).
