Bold vs. OCTre'.

Battle Report by: Bold
Map: Lost Temple
Players: Bold-404 (Terran) vs. OCTre' (Protoss)
Date: 3/18/00

Yet another 1on1 temple public game (keep in mind I'm still trying to get back into my groove after not being able to play for a long time).   This one was more of a challenge than my previous ones.. I created a game and OCTre' entered, this kid was definitely not a newbie.  We both elected to go Random, I spawned Terran (my worst race) at 9:00.  I built my supply depot at my ramp with my 8th SCV (then sent him to scout) and my barracks right next to it with my 10th.  I caught a break and found OCtre' in the first place I scouted.. 6:00, but I sighed when I saw that he was Protoss.  As you all probably know, Protoss vs. Terran on Temple is an unbalanced match up, in favor of Protoss.

Anyway, I went for a heavy metal build using a wall-in at my ramp followed by 2 factories as I could afford them and began to pump tanks and vultures constantly while building marines intermittently.  I sent my scout SCV back to OCTre's base to see what he was up to and he was in the process of taking his natural expansion before any combat had taken place.  This was not good for me, in order to catch up to him in resources I'd have to expand as well, but I hate expanding very early as Terran so I took another path.. I decided to attack by tanking the cliff above his natural.  Ah, but OCTre' was ready for this.  He had dropped a zealot and a DT on his cliff which thwarted my attack instantly, and he also started to build cannons up there.  Bad news for Bold.. right?  Wrong.  This was when I realized that while Protoss may dominate Terran on Temple for the most part, Terran dominates Protoss when they're at 9:00 and Toss is at 6:00.  And this is why:

I brought about 8 tanks, 10 marines, a science vessel, and about 8 vultures down to the valley between mine and OCTre's bases.  With a spotter (my science vessel) my tanks were able to fire up onto the plateau, in which case I was able to take out a few pylons, a gateway and a forge.  OCTre' tried to send some DT and zealots via ground but they were slaughtered my the massive mine field I laid out in the only path to my tanks.  He also tried to corsair my SV but my marines were there to save the day.  This point in time was a great chance to expand under the smoke.. so I took 12:00's main.

Now I was gathering resources like crazy and had a large amount of tanks and vultures, a group of marines, and 2 science vessels.  Once my tanks had destroyed everything they could reach from the valley I layed some mines outside of OCTre's natural, put up a couple turrets and began pushing on his expansion.

This assault would prove too much for my opponent to handle.  He was pinned down and lost a couple key structures in his main due to my low ground to high ground attack.  Apparently he realized that there was nothing he could do because this was when he gave in.  A well orchestrated tank push will own toss, especially if you don't have DWeb or good Templar control.

Well, this was a great game for me because I am out of practice, I spawned my worst race, and I was up against a decent Protoss opponent on a map that favors Toss in this match up.. and I still pulled off a win.  The reason I was able to pull it off was because of the start spots and the almighty tank push.  The funny part is, I learned that low ground tank assault from reading a battle report, so I hope someone reading this report will benefit from seeing it performed as well.
